The Hannitization of America

By Tom Walsh
"It's all about winning to him, not values."
The Democrats have no clue how to act without being in charge. We are now witnessing them convulsing in vitriolic meltdown over their loss of power last November. Ted Kennedy, Chuck Schumer and Joe Biden are wandering around in a daze of disbelief and Howard Dean leads the charge to the left of left. Meanwhile, Hilary methodically lays out her winning strategy for becoming the first woman president by pretending to move to the right. And its working.
The Republicans seem to have no idea how to handle their newfound power. They have wasted their mandate on everything from: Social Security reform, and judicial filibuster negations, to failing to block the state ordered execution of Terry Schiavo, despite the rhetoric and symbolic gestures.
But none of this seems to matter to Sean Hannity. This pied piper, the heir apparent of Rush Limbaugh, believes that everything is coming up roses for conservatives. And, he has taken his dog and pony show on the road with The Hannitization of America Tour. This too is working as tens of thousands attend his pep rallies.
The trouble is that Sean’s idea of a conservative is to simply be a Republican. He promotes pro-choice Rudolph Giuliani and pro-embryonic stem-cell research Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, for president, simply because he thinks they can beat Hillary. Its all about winning to him, not values.
Falling by the way side, as secondary issues, are: the family, morality, and Christian principals. The only thing that seems to matter to him is supporting President George W. Bush’s agenda and making sure that the Republicans in Congress maintain a monopoly of power.
Sean is riding the wave of popular culture, which is outraged over the daily assault of child abductions, sex abuse, unjust and incomprehensible court rulings, liberal media spin, and political betrayal. The average Joe feels an acute loss of control over his life and an increasing inability to support and protect his own family. The Hannitization of America Tour holds out the false hope that we conservatives are gaining power at warp speed and that soon everything will be back to normal. But nothing could be further from the truth.
In the name of patriotism, we conservatives are being flattered and shamed into taking the wrong side on virtually every issue out there. For instance, how does Patrick Henry’s Give me liberty or give me death speech square with the Patriot Act?
Day after day the Catholic Mr. Hannity calls on Christian Conservatives to enthusiastically support the death penalty and the war in Iraq, both of which the late Pope John Paul II tried to dissuade all men of good will from endorsing.
Middle class Americans are not loosing their jobs, because immigrants are crossing boarders, as Sean would have us believe. They are loosing their jobs because secularists like George W. Bush and Party Republicans are pushing a non-representative global government that dissolves national sovereignty through international trade agreements like: NAFTA, CAFTA, the FTAA and the WTO.
We are being conned into a class war with immigrants from Mexico, even though most of the Mexicans are our hard working, tax paying, Catholic brothers and sisters. The fact that immigrant quotas from Mexico are too low and quotas from non-Christian countries are wide open seems to go unnoticed. It’s these quota restrictions that create illegal aliens, not unguarded boarders.
Incompetent actors from Hollywood and shady politicians running for office used to say, “I don’t care what you write about me as long as you spell my name right.” Hanity’s Political Pornography Tour, while consistently opposing immorality and the gay agenda, also uses vulgar language, reports on sleazy stories and questionable skits to ridicule the left. How does this glorify God?
Even liberal extremists are beginning to see how tabloid reporting destroys the credibility of their message. On June 1st Ted Turner in his classic blunt style said CNN should cover international news and the environment, not the "pervert of the day".[1]
We cannot use the tools of the devil to advance the kingdom of God. These secular concessions to sensationalism merely compromise the civilized principles we Conservative Christians espouse.
