Gender – A Priority

By Father Aram Berard, SJ

"So much for Academic Freedom"

After four years as President of Harvard University, Dr. Lawrence Summers is asked to resign.  It was a no-confidence vote (218 to 185, by the faculty members of Arts and Sciences) on a resolution authored by J. Lorand Matory, a professor of anthropology and African studies.  The request to resign was not because of any sex scandal, mismanagement, embezzlement, or incompetence.  It was because last January, Summers said the statistical truth, that women are not equal to men, when it comes to mathematics and science.  The issue in question is not the statistical truth of what Sommers said, but that feminists can not tolerate anyone saying anything, that would indicate in anyway that men are more qualified than women in anything.  Radical feminists want to be free from any male superiority that consequently puts limitations on women’s ability to do everything.  Radical feminists are disinterested only in being faithful to their husbands, and being mothers for their children.  They want to be free of all that.  They want power, and in their minds, have the advantage of being equal or better than men in all things.  They cannot tolerate anyone, even the president of Harvard, speaking the truth about the “differences” between men and women.  In the feminists’ strategy there is only one sex.  We all belong to the unisex species.  Male and female are universally found in all other species of life.  But in the human species only, men and women have a unisex status.  With no male-female differences, the only sexual reality left for humans is sexual orientation.  The homosexual community likes that.  They can follow whatever orientation they experience at any time, and it feels OK.  There’s no need for any commitment to anyone, or responsibility for any newly conceived life.  They are free to do their own thing, following their own instincts at any moment.[1]
